Planning aid, not professional advice
Disclaimer
Last updated: 13 August 2026.
Fiction Continuity Tools is a free, self-service planning aid for fiction authors. It can help organize project information and perform continuity calculations, but it is not a hosted writing service, backup service, data-recovery service or professional advisory service.
Your project data is your responsibility
Your .fictionproject files, browser recovery data, automatic backups, manual backups and any optional author-identification information remain under your control. WRS Web Solutions Inc. does not operate a user account or server-side project database for this workspace and does not keep a recovery copy of your project.
You are responsible for choosing suitable storage locations, confirming that saves and backups actually exist, maintaining independent copies, protecting access to your devices and cloud-storage accounts, and deciding what personal or ownership information to place inside a project file. Browser recovery and automatic backups are useful safety layers, but they are not guarantees against data loss.
Data loss, corruption and device or browser failures
Computers, storage devices, browsers, browser storage, file-system permissions, synchronization services and networks can fail or behave unexpectedly. Files can also be deleted, overwritten, corrupted, conflicted or made unavailable. FictionTools provides save, recovery and backup features to reduce risk, but no software or storage method can guarantee that work will never be lost.
Before making major changes, moving to another device, clearing browser data, changing browsers, relying on cloud synchronization or deleting older files, make a separate manual backup and verify that you can locate it.
No confidentiality or encryption guarantee for standard project files
Standard FictionTools v2 project files are JSON-based and are not encrypted. Anyone who obtains a copy of an unencrypted project file or backup may be able to read its contents. Protect the folders, devices, removable media and cloud accounts where you keep project files. Do not put optional personal information into a project file unless you are comfortable with that information appearing in copies and backups of the file.
Calculations, warnings and generated information
Age, date, pregnancy, relationship, chronology and continuity results depend on the information entered, the selected settings and the assumptions used by the tool. Results may be incomplete, approximate or incorrect. A continuity warning identifies a possible conflict; it does not mean the story is wrong. Fiction may intentionally contain uncertain dates, unreliable narrators, time travel, alternate timelines, fictional calendars or exceptions.
Not professional advice
The site does not provide medical, legal, financial, tax, publishing or other professional advice. Pregnancy and birth calculations are broad fiction-planning estimates only and must not be used for real-world medical decisions.
Availability, compatibility and future changes
Browsers, operating systems, file APIs, security rules and third-party services change over time. A feature that works on one browser or device may not work the same way on another. The site, application, file format and features may be corrected, changed, restricted or discontinued. Authors should keep independent project and backup copies rather than relying on continued availability of this website alone.
Third-party services, translation and links
Browsers, OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive, Google Translate, advertising systems and linked websites are operated by third parties under their own terms, privacy practices, availability and technical rules. WRS does not control or guarantee those services. Using the optional public-page translation control sends the public page URL to Google Translate; it is not used inside the private project workspace.
No warranty
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Fiction Continuity Tools and its content, calculations, workspace, save/recovery/backup features and availability are provided “as is” and “as available.” WRS Web Solutions Inc. does not guarantee uninterrupted operation, accuracy, compatibility, security, confidentiality, successful synchronization, successful backup, successful recovery or preservation of project data.
Limitation of responsibility
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, WRS Web Solutions Inc. and its directors, officers, employees, contractors and suppliers are not responsible for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, punitive or similar losses arising from use of, inability to use, or reliance on the site, including lost or corrupted project data, lost writing, lost time, lost opportunities, lost revenue or business interruption.
Some rights and liabilities cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Nothing on this page is intended to exclude a responsibility that applicable law does not permit WRS to exclude. The more detailed contractual limitations appear in the Terms of Use.
Use the safety features, but keep your own backups
FictionTools is designed to make saving and backup status visible because authors can become absorbed in their work. Use those safeguards, create manual checkpoints, and keep important projects in storage locations you understand and control. See Storage & Backups and Tech Details for the plain-English explanation.
